Bomb squad return to scene of an explosion in north Edmonton, no threat to public safety.![]() (Fire crews work near the scene of an explosion along 97A Street north of Griesbach Road, in Edmonton Saturday Feb. 23, 2019. ) The Edmonton police bomb squad was called back to the scene Saturday where one night earlier a garage explosion rocked a north Edmonton neighbourhood and sent two people to hospital. Police were called back to the area of 97A Street and 147 Avenue in the Griesbach neighbourhood Saturday just before noon. “The bomb squad was called out because chemicals were found on the scene,” said acting Staff Sgt. Mike Zaparyniuk. “There is no suspected bomb and the scope of the investigation has not changed.” Zaparyniuk said police do not believe there is a criminal aspect to the investigation and there is no threat to public safety. He said the two people sent to hospital Friday had minor injuries and have since been released. Leah Rogers lives in the neighbourhood. She said she saw hazmat teams arrive on the scene shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday. She said emergency crews had opened streets to traffic earlier in the morning, but roadblocks were re-established in the early afternoon. “There was nothing set up, like I said nothing was set up until we just got home here after one o’clock that’s when we’ve now seen all this extra activity,” said Rogers.
