Brace for heavy traffic Monday around the Edmonton International Airport (EIA) as Century Mile Racetrack and Casino opens.

The public can visit the new entertainment facility starting 9:30 a.m. Monday. Air travellers are warned to budget for extra travel time to get to the airport without delay.

Increased traffic around the racetrack casino may be initially high, warns the EIA, but peak crowds are eventually expected to visit during non-peak airport hours.

The EIA is also offering tips to make travel around the area more seamless, including:

Public transit to the racetrack casino is available by connecting from either Edmonton Transit route 747 or Leduc Transit route 10 through a connection at the airport terminal using the North On-Airport Transit route.

When it comes to parking at the new entertainment facility, there are 700 stalls available with room for overflow. But if you are catching a flight, don’t leave your vehicle at the casino, warns the EIA.
