Alberta moves to province-wide asymptomatic testing available to everyone.
Alberta reported 24 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, but no new deaths from the respiratory disease.There are 616 active cases in province, with 55 people in hospital, four of them in intensive care. The provincial COVID-19 death toll remains at 143, while 6,220 people have recovered. Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced asymptomatic testing for the novel coronavirus will begin provincewide. Anyone can seek a test, even if they have no symptoms of COVID-19. As we approach the end of another month living in the shadow of COVID-19, many Albertans are starting to look ahead to when more restrictions can be lifted. Premier Jason Kenney announced this week the province's state of public health emergency, in place since March 17, will be allowed to lapse on June 15. Declaring the emergency gave the provincial cabinet many new powers, including the ability to limit the size of public gatherings and require people to self-isolate. |
