If you’ve made a habit of parking in the Calgary airport’s short-term lot and picking up someone within a half-hour, you’ll now have to budget for a $3 fee.

According to YYC.com, the days of free parking for the first 30 minutes in the short-term lots adjacent to the arrivals area at the airport are over. The fee is $3 dollars, if you use the facility for any period of time up to 30 minutes.

The second 30 minutes in short-term lots P1 and P2 costs $4.50 and every 30 minutes after that is $7.95. There is no hourly rate for those lots according to the airport’s website, and the daily maximum charge for parking in a short-term lot is $49.95.

The change was less-than-welcome news to some.

@FlyYYC what happened to the 30 min free parking? Little late to announce once your in the line. #notimpressed #badservice #highwayrobbery

There is still the free park-and-wait cellphone lot that allows you to sit in your vehicle waiting for passengers to land and call for a quick pickup.

The end of free parking also means dashing into the airport to shop at a concession will cost you.

@FlyYYC Why change your 30min parking policy? You marketed your shops as a place to grab stuff while waiting, goodbye to that?

Hourly rates in other lots at the airport start at $10. The daily max in the long term parking areas (P1 and P2) are $27.95.
