Rachel Notley unveils $50M boost to Alberta Enterprise Corporation 阿尔伯塔新预算包括一项五千万激励计划,帮助有革新能力的企业复兴经济。省长Notley星期五宣布了这一项目。 该项目的$5000将分两年投入,每年$2500万。 Alberta's new budget includes a $50-million boost to help innovative entrepreneurs launch nascent businesses, Premier Rachel Notley announced Friday. The money, split into two $25-million chunks over two years, will go toward the Alberta Enterprise Corporation (AEC), which assists small- and medium-sized companies access venture capital and find mentorship. "We want to reduce the barriers and challenges Albertans face in commercializing their ideas," Notley said. "The AEC and its partners create bridges to help overcome these obstacles." Arm's length body The AEC is an arm's-length Crown corporation created with an initial $100-million investment from the Alberta government in 2009. AEC president and CEO Kristina Williams said that investment of public dollars, to date, has resulted in more than $290 million in total investment in Alberta businesses and created more than 1,000 jobs. "Historically, access to venture capital has been a barrier for Alberta-based startups," Williams said, noting the AEC doesn't invest directly in companies but rather in venture-capital funds. Specifically, the AEC notes on its website that it invests in "VC funds that finance early stage technology companies and that have a commitment to Alberta — including a full-time presence in the province." "We also support Alberta's VC ecosystem by connecting investors, entrepreneurs, and experienced technology veterans who share our passion for building a bright, innovative Alberta," the AEC states. Economic diversification Notley said the goal of diversifying Alberta's economy beyond oil and and gas extraction is "of the utmost importance to us" and the AEC boost is a step in that direction. "One of the ways we want to focus growth and diversification is by being good partners with entrepreneurs and visionaries," she said. |
