Man killed in early morning shooting in Whitehorn

Around 3 a.m., police were called to the 100 block of Whiteview Road N.E. for reports of a shooting. When they responded, they found the victim dead. Officers continue to investigate the scene. By the time of the Tuesday morning commute, an area was cordoned off with yellow police tape where the body was found, including the back alley and the green space across the street. The body was covered by a yellow tarp, lying in the road next to a grey Ford Fusion, the front passenger door left open. Orange traffic cones dotted the road. Tire tracks were visible across the frozen grass of the green space, stopping at the Ford Fusion. Officers wearing purple latex gloves were seen carefully scouring the scene. Ken Martin, who lives about two blocks from the scene, said he heard what sounded like a shot fired but thought it was a car backfiring around 3:30 a.m. News of the shooting unnerved him, he said. “I heard something but didn’t think anything of it,” Martin said. “I heard sirens and that’s about it though. I have a family now, a wife and a kid, and hearing about this in this area, I’m really, really scared. “If the person is not apprehended or caught or anything, I’m going to feel really unsafe living in this area.” Rabia Malik, didn’t hear anything unusual overnight but came across the scene later Tuesday morning and was surprised by what she saw. She said the incident is near a school, there are many families in the area, and the neighbors are very nice. “I feel very bad to see this,” she said. Tina Ma, who lives near the scene said she heard the incident in the middle of the night. “I heard a little bit, it sounded like gunshots, but I didn’t know if that’s what it was,” she said in Cantonese. “We didn’t know what was going on. “Police came shortly after.” Police say the homicide unit is investigating, and urge anyone who may have information about the incident to call police or Crime Stoppers. |
