The four-month investigation connected the incidents to downtown drug activity, police believe.

"The kidnapping and the shooting were not only connected, but were orchestrated by the same individual," reads a police release.

Video from a nearby taxi shows the Caliber blocking traffic so the Cruze could get away.

The victim is believed to have been taken to several locations around Calgary and "viciously assaulted."

"Despite the serious assault, the victim never came forward to police and wasn't reported missing," reads the police release.

A day after the kidnapping — and in the exact same spot — a man and woman in their 20s were shot by someone in a blue Dodge Caliber that drove up to them and then took off.

They were taken to hospital in serious but stable condition, and have since been released from hospital.

Police were able to track down a Dodge Caliber and Chevy Cruze. Two people who have a history with police were taken into custody.

The week before, a man was standing on Macleod Trail and Seventh Avenue S.E. when he was approached by someone who asked if he was selling drugs.

When he said he wasn't, the other man took out a knife and slashed the victim across the face before running away.

Brooklyn Palmantier, 22, and Dean Alexander, 22, both face a number of charges — including kidnapping, attempted murder and aggravated assault.

David Brunelle, 25, faces kidnapping, assault and six drug trafficking and possession charges.

Lloyd Bourgeois, 28, is charged with kidnapping and assault.
