Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found dead at a northeast Edmonton home in the early hours of Saturday morning. 

Police officers, who are treating the death as suspicious, responded at around 1 a.m. to 34 Street and 143 Avenue.

Meanwhile, police are knocking on doors to find out more information about an unrelated incident that took place a few hours earlier near Rundle Park, located about five kilometres away.

“There are reports of an exchange of gunfire in a parking lot area,” said northeast division acting Staff Sgt. Shelby Cech.

A few small bullet holes — in a brick wall outside the building and in the siding of an end unit at 3307 116A Ave. — are the only sign that the shooting took place.

A neighbour said the incident, which saw a large police presence outside the building, left her and others in the apartments scared.

“It’s terrifying,” said the woman, who said her name was PJ. “We moved from the other side of the mall where it’s worse.”

She said the woman who lives in the unit that was hit is elderly but was unharmed by the gunshots.

Last Wednesday, homicide police began investigating after two bodies were found dead in a vehicle in the city’s southeast. An autopsy confirmed the two men died of gunshot wounds and it is believed their deaths are linked to drug activity tied to the Lower Mainland of B.C.
