 A crowd-funding page set up Wednesday said 11-year-old Christina Mawusi died after a fire at her home in Edmonton's Lago Lindo neighbourhood. Sixteen-year-old Ethan Peters, identified as her brother, was in critical care as of Wednesday. A teenager who was fighting for his life in hospital after a house fire claimed the life of his 11-year-old sister has died. Ethan Peters, 16, died in hospital June 9, according to an update shared on a crowdfunding site. "It's with heavy heart that I write this update. Ethan Peters passed away on June 9. He fought so hard since the fire but his injuries were too much to overcome," stated Edith Vanderpuye in an update. "As many of you know, Ethan is no stranger to an uphill battle. He was born at one pound, four ounces. To see how much he's grown, is to have already witnessed a miracle. "Thank you so much for your support. To see how communities, friends, and family have come together for these two kids is a strengthening experience." One June 5, Peters' sister Christina Mawusi died. Family described her as a quiet, calm confident girl who was looking forward to junior high. "She loved to dance and looked forward to becoming a chemist when she grew up," a statement reads. "She loved her friends and family dearly." The June 4 fire at 17808 93 St. was contained to the kitchen and was started by overheated cooking oil. While the flames were contained to that room, the smoke spread upstairs where the siblings were sleeping. Firefighters pulled the pair out of the smoke-filled house before paramedics rushed them to the hospital. Investigators estimate damage to the home at $400,000 and $100,000 to the contents.
