Unprepared rafters rescued from Abraham Lake

 An evening on the lake took a dangerous turn Sunday, requiring two people and a dog be rescued from a severe storm after their rubber dinghy was blown from shore on Abraham Lake near Nordegg, Alta. A 33-year-old man from Smokey Lake and a 22-year-old woman from Willingdon were found by an Alberta Fish and Wildlife officer and two firefighters in a near-hypothermic state, according to an RCMP media release. The two were found huddled together under their rubber boat along shore trying to stay warm. The two were rushed to medical care, but have now been released and are healthy. The dog is also fine. The search was prompted by a call from a helicopter over the lake of a group in distress to Rocky Mountain House RCMP shortly after 7:30 p.m. A handful of volunteer organizations and response services were involved in the search.
