阿省新法不再要求餐馆酒吧的露台建三英尺高的隔离板以分开街道或人行道。 A new provincial policy will make it easier for restaurants and bars to control the size and design of their patios. Previous Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) law required businesses to build three-foot-high barriers to separate their patio from the street or sidewalk. The new policy lets restaurants and bars decide how they want to surround their establishment. Minister of Finance Joe Ceci and the provincial government decided it was time to let business owners make those decisions for themselves. “This is a whole effort to recognize that licensed establishments are mature business people,” Minister of Finance Joe Ceci said. “They know how to do these things – we need to get out of the way.” For O’Byrne's, one of Edmonton’s biggest and most popular patios during the summer months, patio season is huge for business. “We can fit a hundred people out here but there’s always people being turned away because everyone wants to be outside,” Manager Brendan Cooke said. “Even for us, we can potentially look at expanding. A little bit easier than before and we definitely would because patio season is huge for us.” Ultimately, officials said this decision was made to allow more Albertans to enjoy the hot summer months outside. “We’re hoping with fewer restrictions, more people will be able to provide patios and enjoy the beautiful summer weather in Alberta,” Maisonneuve said.
